Free Right Angle Weave Pattern Maker
Turn a photo, a motif or a logo into a right angle weave chart you can bead from. Upload an image and MakeBead lays it over a lattice of square units, four beads to a unit, and matches every bead to a Miyuki Delica colour. The chart draws each bead where it really sits — along an edge of its unit, shared with the unit next to it — and the word chart lists every row unit by unit, with the beads each unit adds in the order you pick them up. Check the bead count, fix any bead by hand, and export a printable PDF.

Features
Beads on the Edges, as Woven
In right angle weave the beads are not in squares: they lie on the edges of the units, at right angles to their neighbours. The chart draws them that way — tops and bottoms lying flat, sides standing up — so the picture you see is the one your needle makes.
A Word Chart, Unit by Unit
Row 1 is 4 beads for the first unit and 3 for every unit after it; each following row is 3, then 2. The written rows list each unit by its column on the chart and the beads it adds, in pick-up order, by Delica code — runs of identical units grouped into one line item.
Miyuki Delica Colours
Every bead is matched to the full Miyuki Delica 11/0 (DB) range, over 1,200 colours, each with its code — so the materials list doubles as a shopping list, tube by tube.
Sized in Units
Set the width in units, not cells: 20 units across is a 20-unit panel, and the line under the slider says how many units tall it comes out and how many beads it takes.
Edit, or Draw Your Own
Open the chart in the right angle weave designer to fix a bead, recolour a unit or draw an original pattern from scratch. Every tool there knows where the beads go.

What Is Right Angle Weave?
Right angle weave (RAW) is an off-loom bead-weaving stitch built from small squares. Each square — a unit — is four beads joined in a ring, and every bead lies at a right angle to the beads beside it. Neighbouring units share a bead: the right side of one unit is the left side of the next, and the bottom of one row is the top of the row below. The thread circles each unit, turning at its corners, and changes direction from one unit to the next.
That is why a right angle weave chart looks unlike any other bead chart. The picture is made by the beads on the edges of the units, so a converter that colours squares — as a loom or cross-stitch chart does — cannot show you what you will weave. This tool draws the lattice itself: the beads where they lie, the holes in the middle of each unit, and the corners where the thread turns. The word chart follows the standard flat method, so each line tells you exactly which beads to pick up for each unit.
RAW makes a flexible, almost fabric-like piece, popular for bracelets, chokers and beaded panels, and woven with seed beads, crystals or pearls. If you would rather work in rows of offset beads, the peyote stitch pattern maker and the brick stitch pattern maker use the same Delica palette, and the bead loom pattern maker charts a straight grid. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I turn a picture into a right angle weave pattern?▾
Upload the image, set the width in units and how many Delica colours to use, and MakeBead builds the RAW chart, the bead counts and the word chart. Bold, simple images with clear edges read best: a unit holds only two beads of the picture across its width, so fine detail needs a wider panel.
How do I read a right angle weave chart?▾
Every bead sits on an edge of a square unit: the ones lying flat are the tops and bottoms of units, the standing ones are the sides. The small crosses mark the corners where the thread turns, and the gaps in the middle of each unit are the holes of the weave. The numbers along the top count units from the left; the numbers down the side count rows from the top.
How does the word chart work?▾
Row 1 runs from the top left to the right: the first unit is 4 beads (left side, top, right side, bottom), every next unit 3. Each following row is added below and worked back the other way: the first unit adds 3 beads, every next unit 2, because its top bead and one side are already there. Each unit is named by its chart column — [12] — with the beads it adds in pick-up order; [19–12] means every unit from column 19 to 12 adds the same.
What beads can I use?▾
The palette is the full Miyuki Delica 11/0 range, over 1,200 DB codes, and the materials list counts beads per code. RAW is also woven with round seed beads, crystals and pearls: in the designer you can add any colour through My Colors and name it after the bead you have.
How wide should my pattern be?▾
A bracelet band in RAW is often 3 to 10 units wide; a picture needs more room — about 20 units across before a face or a word reads clearly, 30 to 40 for detail. The readout under the width slider gives the panel in units and the number of beads it takes.
Can I edit the pattern or draw my own?▾
Yes. Edit Pattern opens the chart in the right angle weave designer, where a click places a bead on the nearest edge, a fill colours a whole area, and a selection moves whole units. You can also start there from a blank panel.
Does it chart cubic or tubular right angle weave?▾
It charts flat right angle weave, the base for the other forms. Tubular RAW is a flat panel whose first and last units are joined, so a flat chart of the right width works for it. Cubic RAW (CRAW) builds units in three dimensions and needs a different kind of chart.
Is the right angle weave pattern maker free?▾
Yes, completely free, with no sign-up. Convert as many images as you like and export as many patterns as you need.
