Every banner alphabet you have seen is a trick of geometry. The game ships stripes, borders, gradients and a saltire — no letters — so an A is a top stripe, two side stripes and a middle stripe stacked in the right order, and a V is a saltire with its bottom half painted back out in the background colour.
That last move is what makes a full alphabet possible at all. A layer dyed the same colour as the banner does not add a shape, it erases one — which is how P becomes an E-frame with its lower-right quarter cut away. Without it, most of the alphabet cannot be reached.
The hard ceiling is six. A loom applies six patterns and refuses the seventh, so a handful of letters here are honest approximations rather than typographic matches — S in particular needs seven layers to close properly. Those letters are marked, and each one tells you what was given up instead of quietly looking wrong on your wall.

* The legs are vertical rather than splayed — a banner is too narrow for a true A.
* Square-shouldered — the bowl cannot curve.
* The spur reads as a plain right upright.
* The arms cross the full height, so K reads more like a bowtie against the upright.
* The middle V is the top half of a saltire. The uprights are drawn AFTER the cut, or it would erase them and leave a half-height letter.
* The tail runs the whole diagonal — there is no short stroke.
* The leg is a full-height diagonal, so it crosses the bowl rather than springing from it.
* The lower-right upright is missing, so the bottom bar floats. A correct S needs seven layers (both spurs plus two cuts) and a loom applies six.
* The middle peak is the bottom half of a saltire. The uprights are drawn AFTER the cut, or it would erase them and leave a half-height letter.
* Half height — the saltire crosses at the centre, so a V cannot reach the bottom of the banner. It sits in the upper half.
Letters marked * are approximations forced by the six-layer loom limit, and each one says what it gave up. Every pattern listed here is a plain geometric pattern: none of them needs a banner pattern item, so nothing here requires a rare crafting ingredient.
No. The game has 42 banner patterns and none of them is a letter. Every alphabet, including this one, builds letters out of stripes, crosses and the saltire — plus layers painted in the background colour to cut shapes back out.
A loom applies six, and it will not apply a seventh. On Java you can go up to 16 with a /give command, but Bedrock only renders six no matter how you make the banner — so everything here stays inside six.
A banner is 20 pixels wide and 40 tall, and the patterns are full-width strokes. Inside six layers, some letterforms simply cannot close: S needs seven, so its bottom bar floats. Those letters are marked with an asterisk and each one states exactly what was compromised.

Yes. Every letter uses only the geometric patterns, which exist on both editions and need no pattern item, and all of them fit in six layers. The /give command shown is Java syntax; on Bedrock, use the loom steps.
Contrast decides it. Black on white and white on black hold up at range; two mid-tones like blue on purple blur together within a few blocks. The preview here is flat and unshaded, so what you see is the pattern itself.
