~ PLAN THE BEADS BEFORE YOU PICK UP THE HOOK ~
Bead Crochet Pattern Maker
Plan a constant-circumference bead crochet rope for a bracelet, necklace or lariat. Draw a repeat, check its numbered round diagram, and follow separate guides for stringing and crocheting. Color counts update with your repeat count. Download the chart, complete written sequence and an editable project file. No account is required.
One-repeat crochet-order chart
Round 1 is at the bottom. Read columns 1 → 6 on every round, then move upward. Every cell is one bead.

Bead order guide
Follow these groups from first to last. They are already reversed: the last bead strung is the first bead crocheted.

Current round positions
Numbered layout only. Position 1 is at the top; this is not a finished-rope simulation or a hook-direction diagram.
Bead quantities
120 rounds · 720 beads · 10 repeats
Exact design counts; spare beads, setup, finishing and clasp parts are not included.
Estimate beaded length from a swatch
Enter both measurements from a swatch using the same materials and circumference. Clasps and ends are excluded.

How to make a bead crochet rope chart
- Set the circumference and repeat. Choose 4–24 beads per round and 1–100 rounds in one repeat. Apply the size, then set how many times to use the repeat, from 1 to 100. Resizing preserves overlapping cells at the bottom-left of the chart; new cells use color A. Use the blank or geometric starting charts, or map an image into the current grid.
- Draw and check each round. Select a color code and click cells to paint. You can change the eight suggested colors to match your own beads. Chart round 1 is at the bottom. Crochet columns 1 through the circumference from left to right on every chart row; never alternate direction between rows. The circle shows those numbered positions, not a hook movement tutorial.
- String in the displayed order. The stringing guide starts with the final crochet round and reverses the bead order within it. Follow the numbered groups from first to last, including every repeat. Do not reverse the guide again. The last bead you string is the first one used when crocheting from the free end of the thread.
- Switch to crochet order and save the plan. After stringing, switch to Crochet order to begin with round 1. Use the previous and next controls to keep your place. Download the full written sequence for offline use, the PNG repeat chart for reference, and the project JSON if you want to edit later. Enter measurements from a matching swatch for an estimated beaded length.
One repeat, two different reading orders
The chart is a record of the order in which beads are used. Each row contains exactly the selected circumference, and each colored cell represents one bead. Read from the bottom row upward, with columns increasing from left to right on every row. Repeating the chart repeats this same working sequence; there are no skipped background cells or alternating rows.
Pre-stringing reverses that entire sequence. If your working order is A, B, C, then D, E, F, string F, E, D, then C, B, A. The guide handles both the row reversal and the reversal within each row. Groups are kept separate at round boundaries even when the colors happen to match, so you can check the bead count after each group.
What the circular diagram does and does not show
The numbered circle wraps one chart row around the rope and places position 1 at the top. It helps you inspect neighboring colors and the join between the final position and position 1. The guide highlights which of those positions comes first in the selected reading order. Clockwise placement in this diagram is a labeling convention, not a command to crochet clockwise.
A real crochet rope forms a spiral, with bead tilt, spacing and motif slant affected by stitch structure, bead shape, tension and working direction. This tool is a sequence editor; it does not calculate a stitch-corrected or three-dimensional finished-rope simulation. Make a short swatch before stringing a whole necklace, especially for letters, pictorial motifs or a change of working hand. The supported plan has a constant number of beads around, without increases, decreases or sphere shaping.
Use exact bead totals and your own measured gauge
The design total is beads per round × rounds per repeat × repeat count. Per-color quantities use the actual edited cells and all repeats. The totals exclude spare beads, clasp components and any extra setup or finishing beads required by your chosen crochet technique. Codes A–H identify your chart colors; they are not manufacturer shade numbers. Match the swatches to your physical beads before stringing.
Finished length cannot be reliably inferred from bead diameter alone. Crochet a swatch with the same circumference, beads, thread, hook and tension, count its beaded rounds, and measure that section in centimeters. The estimate scales your measured length to the plan's total rounds. It excludes clasps and unmeasured ends, and it is not a yarn-consumption or bead-weight estimate.
Prepare a chart that is practical to string
A narrow rope has little room for image detail. The image importer fits the whole image into the chosen circumference and repeat height, so its proportions may change. It maps colors to your eight swatches without dithering and fills transparent areas with color A. High-contrast geometric motifs are easier to read than photographs at these small widths. Check and edit the result before preparing the thread.
PNG and complete text downloads are reference documents. The JSON project stores the grid, palette and repeat count so you can reopen the design; it is this tool's format, not JBead's. The guide position and swatch measurements are not saved. Image and project processing happens locally in your browser. Keep a project download before leaving the page, since there is no automatic cloud backup.
Bead crochet chart questions
Is this for bead crochet ropes or flat crochet with beads?
It is for pre-strung bead crochet ropes with a constant number of beads per round. The chart specifies bead colors and order. It does not teach the crochet stitch or generate flat garments, increases, decreases or beaded spheres.
Why is the stringing order backward?
When you crochet from the free end of pre-strung thread, the last bead added is nearest the hook and is used first. The Stringing order guide is already reversed. Follow its groups in increasing order; do not reverse them a second time.
How do repeats affect the instructions?
The same chart is used for every repeat. The guide covers all rounds in the full project and identifies the corresponding repeat and chart round. The text download includes the complete stringing sequence and complete crochet sequence, rather than leaving you to multiply an abbreviated color list.
Can I use my own bead colors?
Yes. Each code A–H has an editable color swatch. Changing a swatch recolors every chart cell using that code. The codes are local labels, not Miyuki, TOHO or other manufacturer codes; the tool does not guarantee a physical color match.
Does the circle predict how my finished rope will look?
No. It shows the positions within one working round, with position 1 at the top. It does not model bead tilt, spiral correction or tension. Swatch a short section to assess the finished motif and follow a crochet technique you already know.
Can I estimate bracelet or necklace length?
Enter a measured number of rounds and their length in centimeters. The estimate uses that gauge for all rounds in your plan. Use the same materials and circumference, and allow separately for the clasp and ends.
Which files can I import and export?
Import PNG, JPEG or WebP images up to 20 MB, at most 8,192 pixels per side and 16 million pixels total, or this tool's JSON project up to 1 MB. Export a repeat-chart PNG, the complete UTF-8 text instructions, and an editable JSON project. Animated images are flattened to a browser-decoded still frame; animated exports and JBead import are not supported.
