What Is a Bead Loom Pattern Designer?
A bead loom pattern designer is a blank-canvas drawing tool — the opposite of a photo converter. Instead of turning an image into a chart, you draw the chart yourself, bead by bead. This is the right tool for designs that don't start from a photograph: geometric borders, arrow and diamond motifs, name bracelets, and traditional loomwork patterns.
Every color you place corresponds to a real Miyuki Delica DB code. When your design is done, the PDF export lists each DB code and how many beads use it — so you buy exactly the tubes you need. Delicas are uniform 11/0 cylinders, which is why loomed rows sit perfectly straight and read like pixel art.

Loom Beading by the Numbers
Delica 11/0 sizing
Miyuki Delica 11/0 cylinders are about 1.6 mm across, so a loomed band runs roughly six beads to the centimetre in both directions. The 24-bead default width is a 4 cm cuff; a 9-bead band is 1.5 cm, the width of a watch strap; a 15-bead bracelet is 2.5 cm. Length follows the same rule — 36 rows is 6 cm, and a bracelet that goes around a 16 cm wrist with a clasp is about 90 rows. Write the finished size down before you draw, and the grid size follows.
Because Delicas are cylinders rather than rounds, every bead in a row sits flush against its neighbour and every row sits square on the last. That is what makes loomwork read like pixel art: one bead is one pixel with no gaps. Round seed beads in the same size make a band about 10% wider and give the rows a slight scallop — fine for a solid colour, less so for lettering.
Warps = width + 1
A band 24 beads wide needs 25 warp threads, one on each side of every bead. Most loomers double the two outer warps for strength, so 27 threads go on the loom. Warp length is the finished length plus 30–40 cm at each end for tying on, finishing and the clasp; a 90-row bracelet needs warps of about 90 cm. Thread choice is tension choice: Nymo D or KO are soft and forgiving, FireLine 6 lb is stiff and keeps edges straight on wide pieces.
The weft is one thread on one needle, passed under the warps with a row of beads on it and back over the warps through the same beads. That pass is what the chart row is: the beads on it, in order, from one edge. There is no shortcut through a row, so a 24-wide band is 24 beads per pass no matter how many colours the row has.
Reading the chart on the loom
Work from the bottom of the chart up, one row per pass, and read each row from the same edge every time — the PDF's bold guides every ten beads are your count marks. A row with six colour changes means picking up six runs of beads in order; a row of one colour is one scoop. This is why the materials list matters beyond shopping: every colour in a row is a stop, and a design with three colours per row is twice as fast to weave as one with six.
The DB codes on the chart are the codes on the tube. Keep the tubes labelled, and when a colour is nearly out, the bead count per colour tells you whether the tube will last the piece. A colour used for twenty beads in a 2,000-bead cuff is a candidate for the fill tool: replace it with a neighbour and the row count of stops drops with it.
Finishing the ends
The last row is not the end of the work. Weave the weft back through two or three rows and trim; then the warps have to go somewhere. The traditional finish weaves each warp back into the beadwork; a faster one gathers the warps through a bead end cap or a slide clasp; a flat finish folds them under a strip of ultrasuede glued to the back. Each takes 5–10 cm of warp per end, which is the allowance to leave when you cut them.
A clasp adds length. A 15 mm slide clasp on a 16 cm wrist means the beadwork itself is about 14 cm, or roughly 85 rows — draw the band at that length, not at the wrist size. The materials panel counts beads per colour, not rows, so check the grid height against the finished length once before you start warping.
Mistakes on a first band
Pulling the weft tight so the edges draw in and the band hourglasses; counting warps for the width and forgetting the +1; choosing two silver-lined colours a shade apart that look identical on the loom; and finding out at row 80 that the clasp needs the last 6 rows. Draw the band at its finished size, cut warps long, and weave the first three rows loosely — they set the width for the rest.
