Fuse Beads, Melty Beads, Perler, Hama — What's the Difference?
"Fuse beads" (or melty beads, iron beads) is the generic name for the little plastic cylinders you arrange on a pegboard and fuse together with an iron. Perler, Hama, Artkal and Nabbi are brands of the same craft — they differ in bead size, color range, and how they melt, but a pattern is a pattern: a grid of colored cells, one bead each.
What does differ is the palette. A chart drawn in Perler colors won't match tube-for-tube if you own Hama beads. That's why this converter carries real, separately curated palettes for each brand and lets you switch between them — the same photo re-matches instantly to the colors in your drawer.

Are fuse beads the same as Perler beads? ▾
Perler is one brand of fuse beads — like Hama, Artkal and Nabbi. They melt slightly differently and their color ranges differ, but the patterns are interchangeable as grids. This tool carries a real palette for each brand so your chart matches the beads you own.
What are melty beads? ▾
Another name for the same thing — "melty beads" is common US shorthand for fuse/iron beads. Any melty bead pattern is a fuse bead pattern; use whichever brand palette matches your stash.
Which brand palette should I pick? ▾
The one you own. Perler (~100 colors) dominates the US, Hama (~90) Europe, Artkal (~199) has the widest range, Nabbi BioBeads and MARD cover eco and budget stashes. Switch brands any time — the pattern re-matches instantly.
How many beads will I need? ▾
The materials list counts every color and converts totals into bags with an estimated cost. It updates live as you resize the pattern or edit beads.
Can I make patterns bigger than one pegboard? ▾
Yes — the chart marks pegboard boundaries and the PDF splits the design into per-board pages numbered in order, so multi-board projects assemble cleanly.
Can I edit the pattern after converting? ▾
Yes. Open Edit Pattern to repaint, erase, flood-fill or replace any color pattern-wide, with undo/redo — and overlay the original photo to check your changes against it.
Does it work for mini beads or midi beads? ▾
The palettes are midi (5 mm) colors — the standard size. The grid itself is size-agnostic: the same chart works with mini beads on mini pegboards, just check your board dimensions.
Can I save my patterns? ▾
